Overview

Greg Smith, super neat All-American boy is bullied by Rocco Hardknuckle, square-jawed, self-proclaimed king of all hills. By chance and by wit however, our hero bests the bully at every turn. Rocco sets himself up for one well-deserved pratfall after another. At the end, however, Rocco's sensitivity toward others is softened by the coming together of Flops, his beagle puppy, a turtle named Tubby, and a pickup basketball game. The backdrop for the story is the WWII, Home Front and the fractured society spawned by the chaos of this tragic war. A serious side of this story occurs when Greg becomes a pen pal of a bomber pilot. The pilot is shot down and becomes MIA. On the same day of learning this dreadful news, he is shocked to discover his all-time favorite teacher, and his pen pal pilot are engaged!
