Iona, witness to a tragedy and forced to grow up on the streets of Ivis at a young age, never expected to be welcomed with open arms into the illustrious Belgrum Boarding school. It was the last place she'd ever thought she would be enrolled at, especially as a human who spent most of her time getting pushed around by fae and fiend alike, those who carry an essence within them. But an institution for gifted wyrs, castors, and more seems like the perfect place to be when you suddenly burst into flames and sprout scales from your skin during a back alley brawl. Olyn, a young man with secrets of his own, is quick to identify Iona as a dragal, someone chosen to bear the essence of a dragon. Maisie, a free spirit even by wyr standards, wouldn't have chosen a combustible orphan as her first pick to share room and board with, but fate seems keen on sticking them together anyways. However, as many forces that stand with Iona are pitted against her, perhaps more. Infiltrating the very school Iona is hesitant to call home marks the next step of a dark plot centuries in the making. Will her new friends be the next casualty of a war she didn't know was raging, as were her parents? How can a 16-year old girl stop a long awaited ritual that threatens to devour the world?

Elin Wilton is an author who was born in Oklahoma and who fell in love with all manner of monsters and beasts from a young age. They earned their BS in Biology from Wichita State University in 2021 and likes to incorporate that scientific edge into their writing.
