He also provides an extensive examination of issues of scoring, particularly relevant for the Credo section onwards since Bach's original performing parts - which would have provided many details concerning both instrumental and vocal scoring - do not survive. Author Information

George B. Stauffer is dean and professor of music history at the Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University. He is a frequent contributor to music journals and is author or editor of four previous books on Bach. He served as president of the American Bach Society from 1996 to 2000.
