Overview

This vivid retelling brings together the best-known stories about Arthur and his court exploring the relationships between the main characters in the legends. Magnificent illustrations by Pavel Tatarnikov add to the atmosphere of Arthurian England. AGES 9-12 AUTHOR: John Matthews is an Arthurian expert and professional storyteller. He is the author of numerous highly acclaimed books on Arthurian legends and Celtic mythology, and was historical advisor for Touchstone Pictures during the making of King Arthur (2004). John has written many books for Barefoot including The Barefoot Book of Knights (PB with CD: 9781841480169). He lives in Oxford. Pavel Tatarnikov lives in Belarus but spent a year in England while illustrating Arthur of Albion. At the age of eleven, he was selected to train at the State School of Music and Fine Arts in Minsk, Belarus. He has been a member of the Belarusian Artists Union since 1997 and is now an illustrator in the Graphic Department of the Belarusian Academy of Arts. REVIEWS: This book is just very graphically pleasing. The art work is graceful and very appropriate to the time period. Although this is directed mainly at middle grade readers as a chapter book, I think that it's perfect for older readers of any age who want to get their Arthur cravings satisfied or learn more about the legends that have infiltrated almost every part of our literary heritage. The wording is simple enough for younger readers while at the same time not condescending and interesting for older readers. This is just a great read be it for the family, in the classroom, or for personal interests. - The Elliot Review Colour Illustrations
