OverviewAnn Sutton MBE (b.1935) is a weaver, prolific writer and active educator who specializes in the use of computerized looms. A vocal pioneer of new technology, she has ventured into innovative making practices within an arena where traditional processes are usually employed. While Ann Sutton has written extensively on weaving, little has been specifically documented on her work. This is the first study to consider her career in depth. Placing the artist and her work within historic and theoretical contexts, Diane Sheehan provides a narrative that includes biographical material and discussion on the development and significance of Sutton's oeuvre since the 1970s. Sheehan's text is complemented by Susan Tebby's analysis of the links between Sutton's work and that of Constuctivism. Including a range of colour reproductions of Sutton's work and featuring work especially completed for the Show5 project, this publication provides a study of one of Britain's leading makers.
