OverviewThis book explains the basic terminology associated with furniture and interiors. It may be used as a handbook by furniture designers, interior designers, architects, those working in retail or anyone with an interest in home decor. As an essential guide, readers may consult this for basic definitions of their queries. From Chesterfield to Gothic; Eileen Gray to Orla Kiely; Louis styles to Bouroullec; Thonet to Tolix; terms are explained alongside illustrations where necessary. While this is a book aimed at contemporary designers it is recognised that much terminology relating to furniture and interiors remains rooted in the archaic; in such cases the contemporary product or context is given to show how relevant the past can still be to contemporary design. With over 1,000 definitions, many of which are illustrated, this book aims to help the reader in discerning the correct terminology to use, whether it be for a design presentation or shopping for new furniture.
