OverviewExcerpt from American Law of Charter Parties: And Ocean Bills of Lading In preparing the pages which follow, I have endeavored to produce a book which would be of use to business men as well as to lawyers. The scheme which I have adopted is to discuss clause by clause the well known documents in everyday use by shipping men, - time charters, rate charters, ocean bills of lading, including that most important statute, the Harter Act. In view of the excellent English works on the subject, I have not attempted to refer to all of the English decisions, but have done so wherever I have deemed it necessary further to illustrate a point or in the absence of American authority. I have stated the result of the decisions, - not my own conclusions. I must not be taken as agreeing with every decision to which I have referred.
