She was a secondary English and Reading teacher for sixteen years. Joan F. Kaywell is a professor of secondary English Education at the University of South Florida. She served as President of the Assembly on Literature for Adolescents of NCTE (ALAN) and recognized as the original proponent of using Adolescent Literature as a Complement to the Classics. Brooke Eisenbach is an assistant professor of Middle and Secondary Education at Lesley University.
