Overview

This is the second volume in the ""Fire and Journey"" series. Kitty Harper accompanies her husband, George, and his regiment to British India. She is determined to be the wife George deserves and to stifle her feelings for Jack, the passionate love of her youth. The regiment will spend five years in Peshawar. This is a dangerous area at the mouth of the Khyber Pass that leads to Afghanistan. Here, Hindus and Moslems have violent outbursts; the tribes of the Khyber hills are fighting to gain control of their homelands; and, there is a growing movement for Indian independence. The only thing they have in common is their desire to drive out the British, who are there to keep the various factions from fighting each other and to make the region peaceful. While George and his troops strive to keep order in the area, Kitty must build a life for herself within the walls of the regimental cantonment; a community governed by rules, regulations and army rank. She is a high-spirited and vivacious woman and struggles to keep herself occupied. But her spirit of adventure, and her ability to communicate with horses, she is a ""horse charmer"", get her into several difficult situations. Over time, Kitty and George grow closer, in the face of the threats from outside the cantonment walls. Meanwhile, a chance encounter tests her resolve to completely forget Jack, who still haunts her thoughts. Can Kitty be the Good Army Wife she has resolved to be? Or will her longing for Jack override her noble intentions? This is a fast-paced tale with a lot of tenderness and exciting action interspersed with occasional bursts of hilarity. I was born in Scotland and raised in Yorkshire. I came to the US for graduate school and had a long career as a university professor and psychotherapist, including ten years in London. I have always enjoyed writing fiction and have devoted the past few years to completing five novels, including the ""Fire and Journey"" series.I now live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest of the US with my husband and out crazy Labradoodle. My hobbies are reading, travel and, of course, writing. I am also enjoying my latest sport, golf.
