Everywhere you look, something is happening--a blacksmith works a forge then pounds out nails to be used for repairs on a nearby house; a shopkeeper expounds to a patron on the variety of scented candles displayed in a bin; and a wig-clad man rides his horse down the street greeting all he meets and engaging them in conversation about the latest British indignities. Debra Bailey is a freelance writer, nature artist, and science educator whose previous projects range from magazine articles and CliffsNotes, to dictionary and medical editing. In addition, Debra has over thirty years of experience in clinical and research laboratories, pharmaceutical AIDS research, and medical ethics. An unrepentant history geek, her favorite time periods are the American Revolution, World War II, the Middle Ages, and Ancient Greece, and her only regret is not getting to meet Apollo's Oracle at Delphi. She is currently at work on a middle- grade historical-fiction book-The Reluctant Hero-which is set in Williamsburg during the American Revolution. Originally from New England, she lives with her husband and soulmate, Ed, in Durham, NC. They have a son, Matt, whose patience in dealing with the antics of the college students he works with, and the beauty of his photographic creations, never ceases to amaze them.
