After graduating high school, he earned a BS in Education and married his high school sweetheart, Marilee, in 1967. He taught 5th grade for several years before attending Chiropractic college, where he received his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 1976. Dr. Keim practiced for over 40 years. In 1986, he, Marilee, and their daughter Megan moved to a small farm, where Rick added horses to his love of animals. This inspired the story of John Henry.
