A Captive Freed - A Captive Made

Overview

A testimony of unending love. For many years, family and friends urged me to write the story of my life. I resisted. Writing about myself felt uncomfortable, even self-centred. I have never sought the spotlight, preferring the shadows, and I believed the past was best left undisturbed. Now, in my ninetieth year, I have changed my mind. I write first for my children and grandchildren, who know little of where I came from or the path that shaped me. This is my attempt to leave them an honest account of my life - warts and all. But more importantly, this is not simply my story. It is the story of what God has done in my life. It is a testimony to His unending love, His patience, and His call upon my life. If this book serves any purpose, let it be to give glory to His name.

Author Information

Peter C. Horrell was born in England in 1936. He served in the British Army in Kenya in the mid-50s during the Mau Mau conflict. As a traveller and adventurer, he hiked around Europe, immigrated to Australia and later moved to New Zealand in the early 60s. In New Zealand he had what he calls a ""Damascus Road"" encounter with Christ. He felt a call to foreign missionary service and spent time at the Missionary Training College in Tasmania, where he met his future wife, Caroline. Together they served in South America and Spain. Upon their return to Australia, Peter completed his theological studies at the Baptist Theological College of Queensland. He has been a Baptist pastor of churches in Australia and New Zealand. He has written several Christian articles, including his soon-to-be-published autobiography. His interests are poetry, archaeology, early European history and succulents. He and his wife Caroline have 'retired' and live in Maleny, Queensland, Australia. They have been married over 50 years and have three children.
